Job Summary

The CNC Programmer is responsible for programming all CNC machines to cut and bend metal parts. The Programmer plans workflow to maximize material usage and labor efficiency, working with designs to ascertain which parts can be made given current machinery capabilities. Programmer will be available for shiftwork and as-needed work schedules where appropriate in order to respond to the needs of the build plan. Programmer will demonstrate high levels of responsibility and accountability, working effectively and efficiently.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Develop plans and schedules to maximize utilization, work center loading, on time delivery, organization, and material flow for all fabrication work centers.
  • Communicate plans with supervisors and leads for implementation.
  • Record and track production data and key performance indicators.
  • Become a technical expert on the programming, operation, and maintenance of fabrication machinery, equipment, and software.
  • Drive improvements and quality by tracking measurements for programming, machine efficiency, and material utilization/scrap.
  • Revise and track program revisions due to engineering changes.
  • Continually optimize part programs to improve efficiency of material usage and labor.
  • Make parameter adjustments in software to optimize machinery to ensure smooth operation and quality parts.
  • Effectively communicate with Engineering teams to explain whether a part is possible to make with current machine configurations.
  • Ensure CAD models incorporated into programming software with no errors and models comply with the software.
  • Train team members in new products, programming techniques, and other related issues.
  • Be a top performer in workmanship, safety, and work ethics; possessing excellent understanding of company operating procedures and policies with commitment to put them into practice.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience operating CNC laser/plasma cutting machines, press brakes, and other machinery required in fabrication of parts.
  • CNC Programming certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Proficient in all types of measuring tools as required.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read instructional drawings and schematics.
  • Exceptional understanding of fabricating shop safety and possible hazards.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Windows and file management systems.
  • Basic CAD modeling software experience.

  • Computer, laser cutting machine, plasma cutting machine, press brake, overhead crane, forklift.
  • Other CNC machines and equipment.
  • Other machines and equipment specific to department or facility needs.

Typical Environmental Conditions

Worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. May have temperature changes due to working inside a shop. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. There is air and or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
